The gift that will bring mom to tears: Mother of the Bride Drawing
It’s 11am on the biggest day of your life. The make up and hair artists are finishing up their final touches on your gorg self and you will be ready to reveal your final put together look to your mom and your bridesmaids any minute now. The photographer is doin’ what they do best. They get a few of you and your girls and then a few of you and your mom next. You tell your mom to hold on for ONE SEC, that you’ll be right back! You arrive with a framed gift and proceed to hand it over to your mom. She’s thinking it’s a nice photo of the two of you from that amazing bridal shower she threw you. Little does she know, it's a custom illustrated drawing of the two of you from your wedding day!
But wait….today’s your wedding day!? How’s that even possible? How did you get this drawn in a few hours and who’s this magician who did this in a few hours this morning!?
I get asked all of the time, can I only give this gift to my mom after the wedding day since my wedding hasn’t happened yet? Do you need an image specifically of us in this pose from behind? Or heck! I never even got a picture of my mom in her dress, but here’s it on the hanger.
Well my frands, today’s your lucky day because I am going to walk you through exactly what I need to create one of these puppies right. now. (I need a lot less than you might think!)
What I'll need
First off- I DO NOT need a photo of you two together, nor do I even need a photo of you guys in your dress... SAY WHAT!?
Let’s start with the bride:
The most common images brides send me are of them from their wedding dress shopping trips. You know that moment when you can’t see your dress fully so someone flings out the train all perfectly and snaps the photo from behind. This is probably the easiest way for me to see what the dress actually looks like on you. Dress didn’t fit completely right on the shopping trip? No worries, I won’t draw that extra hole where the zipper didn’t fully close or that clip holding you in! Did you (do you plan) on loosing a few pounds before the wedding.. I gotchu!
If you don’t have an image of you in the dress from behind, I’ll take any of the following:
- One of you in the dress from the front with a description of the back
- A photo of you on a regular day paired up with a photo from the designer’s website.
- A photo of you on a regular day paired up with a photo of the dress on a hanger.
- A photo of the back or front of your hair from your hair trial OR a description of your hair style such as a blonde loose updo.
- Your photo does not need to be with the other person. It's always nice to include one though so I can get a sense of heights.
Mother of the bride (or mother of the groom, grandmother, father of the bride, sisters, etc):
The most common images brides send me of the mother of the bride is when she was trying on dresses at the store. This is probably the easiest way for me to see what the dress actually looks like on her. Usually a front picture is what I receive the most, but back is always the most helpful. If we're talking father of the groom or grandpa- just tell me what color suit and we're good to go.
If you don’t have an image of her in the dress, I’ll take any of the following:
- One of her in the dress from the front with a description of the back.
- A photo of her on a regular day paired up with a photo from the designer’s website.
- A photo of her on a regular day paired up with a photo of the dress on a hanger.
- A photo of the back or front of her hair from her hair trial OR a description of her hair style such as brunette and down and wavy.
- Her photo does not need to be with the bride. It's always nice to include one though even on a regular day so I can get a sense of heights.
And WALAH! There you have it. Easy peasy mama!
Now just wait for it….
“I gave it to my mom on my wedding day and it was the only time she cried the whole day. It is so beautiful and she is in love with it!” - Sarah T
